So, Anna from Herding Cats & Burning Soup had this bright idea about reading all the books from an author who has a HUGE backlist, like with 45 books or more size of a backlist. Her pick was Jayne Ann Krentz and I ADORE Jayne Ann Krentz in all her incarnations, so being the copy cat that I am, I'm jumping on board.
Now, I don't know how long this challenge is going to take me to complete because the esteeemed JAK has written 178 books and she puts out about 3 books a year, at least one new book from each of her writing incarnations. To be honest, while I've read a lot of JAK's work, I don't know exactly how many of her books I've read.
Do you know who else would make an epic Read All The Books challenge? Nora Roberts. Now talk about a backlist!! According to Fantastic Fiction she has approximately 330+ books in her backlist between her Nora Roberts and J D Robb pen names. I couldn't find a backlist of her writing as Sarah Hardesty or Jill March, although, I think over the years, those titles might have been rebranded under Nora Roberts.
I'm trying to talk my bud Bambi into doing this too but she's having a hard time picking an author.
Oh, one more thing - I love JAK and all her books but a lot of the books listed below are old, out of print and in paper format only. One of the books I looked up was $120 for a used copy!!! Holy frak! That's a lot of money for an old book, so I'm modifying this particular challenge by saying that I will only read all the backlist that's available in e-format only. I know that's not strictly the point of read "ALL" the books, but to be honest, I can't afford that kind of money for used books no matter how much I like the author and for a reading challenge.
UPDATE: I have decided to switch my second author from Christine Feehan to Liz Fielding. I have two reasons for that. (1) My friend Bambi has been reading Christine Feehan for her RATB challenge and she's not keen on her heroines. She and I both have very similar tastes and tolerances when it comes to heroines so to save myself the aggravation, I think I'll give Christine a miss for the challenge, although I will still pick up her books to read. (2) I adore Liz Fielding. She's one of my favorite romance authors when it comes to sheer romantic comfort reads. She's got a 65 book back list with Harlequin and I figure that will be a decent thing to get stuck into. Off I go!!
Note: Liz Fielding has a number of her books converted to manga comics. I have left those of the list to read.
Ugh, and now I think I want to do Nalini Singh too since I've read most of her Psy-Changeling, Guild Hunter and Rock Kiss series, I'd have a very good head start but then that's biting off more than I can chew. Will save this for another day. :-/
If you'd like to jump aboard too, you can sign up for the challenge here.

Phew! That's a lot of books. Let's hope I will one day manage to finish these challenges. I'm not setting a time limit on myself but I'm going to work on reading 1 book from each a month and more if I can fit it in. That would be challenge enough for me.

ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of books I have read a few of the Amanda Quick books and loved them but that was a long time ago I am not sure if I could set myself this challenge to much for me :)
Fingers crossed you get it done
Have Fun

It's a HUGE list. This is going to take me years to complete. Based on the number of unread books here, if I only read from this list and nothing else (and we know that's not going to happen!) it will take me 1.5 years to finish it.
