Do you re-read books?

Do you re-read

I've been thinking about re-reading a lot lately. I've had books in the past that I've loved and re-read regularly. When I was in my teens, I read this series called The Belgariad by David Eddings. I LOVED it. I mean HARD CORE loved it. It's my most re-read series. I was re-reading it at least once a year for over a decade. I wore out one set and had to buy a new set of the books because I read them so much.

Before I started blogging, I would re-read books I loved. These days, there's such a demand on my reading time because of all the new books I'm reviewing that I can barely keep up with new books and series I want to read, let alone re-read favorites.

Now, I read to a schedule. When does this book need to be read by because of its release date? I try to post reviews of books on my blog as close to release day as possible. Usually between a day or two before release day up to a week after release day. In fact, I've gotten so used to reading to a schedule and a list that when I had a couple of months available to read whatever I liked, I was at a loss. It's laughable but I had to make a list of all the books I wanted to read and then read off the list. I'm so silly.

But back to re-reading. You know what I'd like to re-read if I had the time?

Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison  Oracle's Moon by Thea Harrison  Shadow's End by Thea Harrison

For starters, a few of the books from the Elder Races series by Thea Harrison. Dragon Bound to this day remains one of my favorite paranormal stories. I love both Dragos and Pia as hero and heroine. The way Dragos pursues Pia with singleminded determination is heart-melting stuff.

A Discovery Of Witches by Deborah Harkness  Shadow Of Night by Deborah Harkness  The Book Of Life by Deborah Harkness

Then I'd like to re-read the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. Those books have some of the richest and most delicious prose I've read in a long time. I'd love to lose myself in the rich tapestry of the writing again. And it doesn't hurt that Matthew is delicious too. I'm also certain I've missed things in my first read through since I was in such a rush to get through the story and wasn't savoring as I should have.

Forged In Fire by Juliette Cross  Sealed In Sin by Juliette Cross  Bound In Black by Juliette Cross

I'd also like to re-read the Vessel Trilogy by Juliette Cross. I am utterly in love with Jude, the hero and he's perfection. He's everything I love about a hero. There's an honesty and purity to him that is simply breathtaking. I'd call dibs on him if I could but I'm afraid I'd be fighting off hoards of other women for him.

Naked In Death by J D Robb  Glory In Death by J D Robb  Immortal In Death by J D Robb

I'm utterly behind on the Eve Dallas / In Death series by J D Robb. I think the series is into 40 plus books now but I enjoyed it when I read it in the early days. I have done a complete re-read of the series a long time ago when there were only ten or so books out at the time but haven't progressed much since then. I think I'd like to start that series again but I'm afraid of how long it will take me to catch up.

Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh  Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh  Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh

And finally, this probably comes as no surprise, the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. I find the writing for this series extremely evocative and breathtaking. My breath literally catches in my throat as I read these books. I want to enjoy them again.

So tell me, do you re-read books? If you do, what are your most re-read books?

  1. I very rarely re read as not enough time!
I have re read Anne Rice's first 4 vampire novels several times. Plus Jordan L Hawk's Widdershins and Spectre books.
If I had time I'd re read The Witching hour by Anne Rice and The Black lily books by Juliette Cross

  2. I like to re-read but, like you, have limited time and read on a schedule. Most of my re-reads these days are in audio.

    1. At least you're fitting them in with audiobooks. I'm not even doing that.

  3. Hi Deanna

I don't re-read either for the same reasons as you I have such a huge TBR pile and so many books that I have to read and review I do read to a schedule as well although there are times I just pick up a book because it is one I have been waiting on :)

As for series I am behind in Nalini Psy-Changeling and Guild Hunter series and also Marie Force's Fatal series and Suzanne Ferrell has a couple of really good series that I am behind in as well I need to catch up and soon wish me luck

    Have Fun

    1. I think many of us are in the same situation. Simply no time to reread. And there are so many new books coming out so fast now.

  5. Great topic. I stopped reviewing years ago because it was just too difficult to maintain the review schedule with the "for fun" schedule. To make things worse, I reviewed for 3 sites, and I was the author interviewer and contest coordinator for one site. Needless to say, I had to re-read quite frequently for my own sanity.(lol) My TBR pile is so massive that I really need to focus on those books, but I keep adding more. So even though I keep my books, I tend to re-read one book a year for fun, but most of the re-reading comes about for work or research reasons. Kudos to you for maintaining a schedule and sticking with it. Happy Wednesday! RO

  6. I have re-read a few books that I liked and hadn't read in many years. I also will re-read some books in series that I like if there are long periods between books.
