What Deanna Read #12: January 2017

January has been a decent reading month. Not an all time high but with enough books to make me happy, and I'm pacing myself. My average seems to be about two-ish books a week. Some weeks more, some weeks less. It all depends on what I've got going on. Ya know, life stuff. This month has been a busy one with a few trips into the city to run errands and to deal with some health stuff, and also Chinese New Year with the family. There were days when there was no reading for the whole day at all. Such is life. I'm still learning to be kind to myself about it but there are SO. MANY. BOOKS!!! And I want to read them ALL!!

Let's see what February brings. :-)

* Not romance but I reviewed it.

In terms of quality of books, this has been a GOOD reading month. Pretty much everything was either 4 or 5 stars. Maybe I'm getting better at picking the right books I enjoy to read or maybe I got lucky this month.

Stand outs include: Dr Bad Boy by Ainsley Booth and Sadie Haller. Holy cow! That book is HOT! It's full of kinky fuckery so if that's not your thing, you might not enjoy it.

His Naughty Intern by Lola Darling was a big surprise. She was a new-to-me author and a free read. I thought it's be a quick, tawdry, trashy read based on the blurb but it turned out to be very good. Almost 5 star material. And it had one of my favorite tropes - the boss / employee trope. Always a win for me when that trope is involved.

The Sheikh's Convenient Princess by Liz Fielding was BRILLIANT. Classic Liz Fielding. Classic romance. Warm, romantic, breathtaking, and it made me go looking for other books where characters were briefly mentioned in it. I might have paid $17 shipping for a $3 used book for one of them! :-O I really wanted the book!!

Two books took me by surprise. The Stubborn Billionaire by Lexxie Couper because it featured a trope I HATE. But Ms Couper did such a great job writing the story and how she handled the trope, I was a convert. I adored her hero, James.

The other was Forced Disappearance by Dana Marton. It was more suspense than romance but with enough romance to keep me happy. It also featured a trope I don't like. But again, it was handled really well and it surprised me. And the suspense was fantastic. Action-packed and adrenalin-filled.

That's it from me. What did you read for this last month? Do leave a comment and let me know.

And stay tuned for Helen's reading list for the month too.
