I may be a Prince, but there are things that trouble me about my father's royal rule—the forced abduction, experimentation, and torture of alien creatures. The king has a new prisoner who's a carefully kept secret...

There's a young female who belongs to a little-known civilization I have been studying extensively. They are human, belonging to a small, undeveloped planet called Earth. She is pretty in a way I find unusual and compelling. Sometimes I sneak into the adjoining cell and we talk about everything and nothing, even as I find myself yearning to touch her strange, soft skin.

Skin that is being subjected to invasive tests and experiments. A body that's scheduled for a live dissection in fifteen days. And a life that will be terminated unless I risk my future and life to help her escape...

I don't normally read New Adult stories but the premise of this one intrigued me since I love a good sci-fi romance. Plus an alien abduction ... I wanted to know all about that!

I felt for America as she went through her captivity and the alien experimentation being conducted on her person. I admire the detail that Ms Lanford went into in describing her ordeal, making it seem a little too real and somewhat believable. The way the experimentation was described, I could see an alien abduction and being experimented on happening that way. It sends an icy chill down my back. I definitely do not want to be experimented on and certainly not scheduled to be dissected alive as part of the experiment. I admired America's spirit as she fought being held in the cell and tried to escape. Even when she knew it was fruitless, she tried and that was something to be admired. (Okay, I've used admired in a paragraph 3 times now, I need to stop!) I also loved the budding romance between her and Garran, and being an NA story, I liked the easy pace Ms Lanford took as she developed the relationship.

Garran was wonderful. Kind, compassionate and principled. Some things seemed a bit convenient, like the fact that he could speak English and had studied her culture but I guess they needed some way to communicate and fall in love. I liked how Ms Lanford made him alien but also compatible at the same time. I thought that was very interesting. I definitely liked the fact that he was not purple!

Even when I knew that Ms Lanford would find a way for them to be together at the end (this is a romance after all!) it still made my heart ache when America and Garran thought they would be separated forever with only their memories of each other. The ending did surprise me though and while I suspected it would be the case, I was not entirely certain and I loved how America discovered the way for her and Garran to be together.

All in all, very enjoyable and I'm looking forward to finding out who the couple in the next book will be.
